Created In The Image Of God

Created In The Image Of God You are created in the image of God. Genesis 1:26-27 Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” 27 So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Genesis 2:7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being. God spoke and it was so. God said “Let there be…” and there was. He spoke creation into existence with a word but when it came to man He first conferred with the Godhead. He spoke within the Trinity and a holy conference took place. He said, “Let Us create man in our image…” God formed man of the dust of the ground. Where everything else simply became, God formed man. If you picture an artisan sculpting a masterpiece you get a picture of what took place that day. With clay on His hands and a smile on His face, God breathed into the man’s nostrils and he became a living being. God created man in His image and this is the first and greatest marker of identity. We love and we rejoice. We dream and we strive. God molded the heart of the dreamer and God ignited that dream. We often claim to be nothing but that is so far from true. Yes. Without Christ we are nothing but, we are still crafted in His image. We are still amazing. No mistake you or I have ever made or ever will make can change that. When we degrade ourselves and start to believe the lies others have spoken of us we are, in a sense, saying those things about God. God never hung a star in the sky in hopes that it would not shine and God never intended for you to not shine. He places us in this world against a stark backdrop and we should stand out. We should shine brightly. Just as the stars served as navigational guides to explorers of the past, we should serve as bright beacons of hope and a navigational guide to others. We all get lost. We all lose sight of the horizon. Man, being formed in the image of God, is that beacon leading others to the finish line. We can and should lead people in the direction of the Son and that is impossible when we lose sight of our own value. I have heard so many people say, “I just don’t fit in.” Yes! That’s wonderful. You were built to stand out. The argument has been made that if everyone is special nobody is special. A parent who has more than one child believes all of his/her kids are special. All of the kids are that parents favorite and nobody questions that. Why would it be so hard to believe that God considers me to be His favorite and He calls you His favorite too? If God is an artist, and He is, then we are His Self portrait. We are His poem. One of the words used to describe us says we are His craftsmanship. This comes from the word poiemia. This is where we get our word ‘poem’. You are His poem. He holds and owns all of creation. Every, plant, fish, planet and galaxy is His and He wants us. We are created in His image and we are created for relationship. We are here to love and to worship Him and to point others to Him but we are here for Him to love too. Let us not lose sight of this. May we be ever aware that we are His treasure. Remember the Bible says where your treasure is there is your heart also… We are Gods treasure so where is His heart? There will be 4 more blogs in this series and the book they are taken from will be available soon. THANKS FOR READING AND SHARING.
